End of week...

Thursday was just a no good down day so I decided not to blog. I didn't want it to be negative and discouraging.

Today was much better so I figure, in hopes at actually keeping this blog current, I'd better blog.

We took our students on their incentive field trip today and was very impressed with the remodel of the Museum of Discovery! The students loved it!! Anything that can retain the attention of 70+ 7th graders for 2.5 hours has got to be impressive. We split the students into two groups and while one went through the exhibits, the others listened to a lecture on the first engineers and how simple machines have progressed. There was a small exhibit on dinosaurs, one on the human body, and a small animal expo. The largest exhibit had tons of interactive machines the students could play with. My only complaint was that the museum staff decided to feed live mice to the snake before we arrived and one little mouse was still running around helpless. In fact, I think I may email the museum and suggest a more appropriate feeding schedule!!

My mister is still away on business so I'm playing it solo this Friday night. I have thoroughly enjoyed a quiet lazy night at home in my pjs just hanging out with Rosey and my Hunger Game books!

I'm working at my least favorite part time job tomorrow (job #1) and am planning to try and spunk up the day with a Mexican coke!! They're my kryptonite!!

I also have Sunday off which is a rare treat! I visited Kyle's church last Sunday and really enjoyed it so I plan on visiting again this week! I'm horrible at doing things alone but I know I need the time of fellowship and worship so I'm sucking it up and going alone!!! TTTOOWWAANNDDAAA!! I can do it!

Oh! One more thing before I go! I got some free samples from job # 2 this week and thought I'd share my thoughts on them! In my adult years ive struggled with acne and breakouts, which comes very frustrating since I never had them as a teenager! Im always looking for face washes and cleaners as well as skin repair lotions. I just started trying two products from Merle Norman. I'm trying their Luxiva foaming cleanser for normal/dry skin and Luxiva Aha Toner. The foaming cleanser is magic! It goes on so smooth and creamy and leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean. I'll keep you updated on the actual effectiveness as I continue using it! Ive never used a toner before but the Merle Norman lady explained that it cleans what the cleanser left behind and tones your skin. So I'm giving the toner a try as well and who knew all the dirt cleansers can leave behind!!

Well Bloggers and readers I hope you have a blessed and great weekend!!

American Idol!!

So my favorite show started it's 11th season tonight!! I've watched every season! I have a great group of friends who watch it together and keep track of our favorites!! It's so fun!

I ate dinner at Big Orange tonight in West Little Rock. There is no comparison to their burgers...and chips.. and ice cream. Ok, so everything there rocks! It's one of my all time favorite places to eat but it's kind of $$ so it's a treat! (broke college girl here)

It was another slightly boring day of interning. I'm beyond ready to start doing some teaching and hoping that it will help move time along. I miss my 4th graders terribly!!!! I'm hoping to get some time to visit them soon! I did however get the class decorated for our new unit on early civilizations, which means i got to play with the hot glue gun!! I'm waiting until the new unit starts so I can start teaching and progress through the unit. I'm sooooooo ready!!

Were taking roughly 80 7th graders on an incentive field trip Friday. The students who went the first semester without referrals or SAC (in school suspension) get to attend a special field trip every semester. I'm anxious to see how that all plays out. 

Well I hope everyone had a great day!! Were half way through, only 2 more days until the weekend! Woooooo!!!

Much love,

Longest short day ever...

I gave myself a rare treat and went in to my internship 2 hours late and slept in!! I never sleep well when Kyle is gone so I struggled falling asleep last night. Despite it being a shorter day at the school for me, I felt it dragged on!! They are doing pre-registration for 8th grade so the counselor was giving them the how-to on the form. I had to listen to the same speech 6 times. Painful. The district I'm interning in decided to go to a 7 period school day next year which eliminates an entire elective option. With a 7 period class day they can choose a year long elective such as music, language, or sports. They also can choose one semester elective such as art, EAST, or P.E. This leaves students having to choose between sports and music. If the student scored below basic (low for their grade level) they only get one semester elective because they will have interventions or longer class times to remediate them. I find this SO frustrating!! It is not fair to those students to make them chose between the arts and sports or a language fulfillment. The students deserve the opportunity to explore the arts including band and choir as well as graphic design, family and consumer science, and finance classes. I feel it's our schools responsibility to introduce culture to these students whose parents can't or won't. Ugh. Frustration.

I'll get off my soap box now.

Besides that, the day has been pretty well!! I worked at one of my two part time jobs tonight and just got home. I'm currently curled up with my baby (my cat Rosey) and watching Parenthood, my all time favorite show!!!

So good night fellow bloggers and readers and I hope it's a great week!!

Laundry, grapes, and summer in January.

To say that were having unseasonably warm weather in Arkansas this winter would be an understatement. It reached 70 degrees today.... It's the middle of January!!! Not that I'm complaining. I hate cold weather, I'll take this 70 degree day over a 20 degree snow filled sky any day!

I'm in my last semester of college and am interning at a local middle school which makes MLK day not just a day to remember a great man in history but also affords me a 3 day weekend. I was determined to sleep in this morning but by 7:30 I was wide awake and making to do lists in my head.

I spent the morning doing laundry and catching up on all of my mindless reality TV shows.
I ate lunch with Kyle (my amazing boyfriend) and helped him pack. He travels a ton for work and is gone almost every other week (boo). He left for Kansas and LA and gets home Sunday night.

Ive tried to pace myself through my new addiction (The Hunger Games trilogy) but it's getting the best of me and I feel I'm starting to cave.
So while it really stinks not having my mister around, it's allowing me some valuable reading time.

I'm off to indulge in Peeta, Katniss, and all of the madness enclosed in the second book of HG.

Goodnight!
